IKM was commissioned to design a new, 43,500 square foot, Physical Therapy Classroom Building for the Physical Therapy department at Slippery Rock University. Slippery Rock offers one of only three accredited professional (entry level) doctoral programs in the United States.

The space program for the new facility includes technology based classrooms and administrative space; a study area and learning resource center featuring therapy-related volumes and periodicals and computer research/reference access; clinical practice space; scientific study and examination space including both teaching and research laboratories; and, student and faculty locker rooms and lounge areas.  The scientific examination spaces are the motion analysis lab, neurohistology lab and the gross anatomy classroom. The facility also offers animal research facilities.

The design of the facility joins together spaces in a clear and direct circulation system with the capacity to handle the number of students and faculty using the facility.  Most importantly, it provides the School of Physical Therapy a permanent and prominent facility that addresses the specific needs of the students and faculty within the given curriculum.
