IKM Incorporated was awarded the full service interior design contract for the150,000 SF Alcoa Business Services Center on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.  Guests are greeted in each elevator lobby by a warm palette of woods and natural stones trimmed in aluminum and featuring a digital plasma screen monitor Niches for Alcoa artifacts allow for permanent and rotating displays at the South side of the lobby leading to Reception and waiting.

The twelve-team meeting rooms per floor are also distributed on the South façade further capturing the City’s vistas. Each is enclosed with a Kawneer aluminum storefront system using translucent colored glass to provide privacy to users within and light penetration, as well as a distinctive backdrop to the open plan areas beyond.  Additional meeting facilities include a training center, teleconference facilities, rear projection capabilities and an interactive video monitor conference room.  An inviting 3,000 SF employee lunch room supports day to day operations as well as special functions and overflow meeting space and highlights aluminum products through displays as well as tables & chairs and custom counter supports. The adjacent outdoor terrace offers additional fair weather seating capacity.

The furniture system is comprised of an aluminum backbone supporting a series of stackable panels in neutral tones, wood veneer work surfaces and champagne toned filing components arranged in a staggered layout to afford privacy and the integration of plants.  Ergonomic seating supports each user and mobile tables with occasional seating are interspersed with common filing, printer and fax areas to support the team environment.
