The design solution for the Transportation Center treats the structure as a building of more importance because of its prominent location adjacent to the city’s cultural district; its proximity to the nearby Convention Center, and as a gateway to the popular shopping area known as the Strip District. Attractive perforated metal panels on all sides form the building’s skin, hiding the sloping floor lines of the parking ramps and masking the functional features of the garage.
A glass tower topped with the Parking Authority logo and 7-story decorative polycarbonate sail announce the entrance to the Greyhound Bus Station. Rear projection LED displays allow the sail to randomly change colors for visual interest.
The design also provides retail space to occupy one corner of the building reinforcing the existing pedestrian street patterns. Office space is provided to accommodate the bus terminal’s business transactions.
